Everest Base Camp 2011 • 10/30/2011 8:25:44 AM Dingboche Acclimitization - Tom Higashio
Hello! This is Summits of Hope climber Tom Higashio calling from Dingboche in Nepal. Today we had a rest day and did a short acclimitization hike this morning to a lookout at about 15,000 feet. It was a personal high for some of our climbers. The weather was fantastic and we had great views of the local mountains and of Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,349 ft). We got back at about noon, so in the afternoon, we spent the afternoon just resting, journaling, and checking out the little village of Dingboche. There isn't a lot here - but there was still lots of cool things to see, especially at 14,200 feet. There was a little bakery that we spent some time at and got some great apple pie and some coffee. Everyone is feeling healthy, everyone has been traveling strong and the team has been fantastic! It's been an incredible pleasure to be a part of this team. I want to say a personal thank you to all.... (transmission failed - but we know Tom is climbing for Hannah's Heroes - and is carrying the BC Children's Hospital flag with him as the team ascends!)
