Everest Base Camp 2011 • 11/4/2011 7:55:59 AM Hot Showers!! (Julian Alphilbert)
Good evening everyone. This is Julian Alphilbert, team member for the 2011 Everest Base Camp trek. Breaking news today - we all had hot showers. It's amazing because after nine days of not having had a shower, you'd think that the team camaraderie would have been compromised, but I think we somehow were able to get even closer if you can believe that or not. So having arrived at our accommodations this afternoon, I think it was probably the most priceless thing we could have been able to get laid out in front of us which is the ability to have a hot shower. That said, we've had a five hour descent, uh, I think we're between Lukla and Namche Bazaar, and the descent was quite steep, and in lots of instances we could not even recall having ascended in those areas. So it just goes to show how sometimes unpleasant parts of the trip somehow just get blocked out of our memories, but I'm sure in time we'll be able to relive those memories and appreciate and really be truly grateful for having had the opportunity to do so. One of the things we're planning for tomorrow is to hike directly into Lukla. We're anticipating that this will take about seven hours or so. We've been told that it will be a bit of a descent because here we are at about 9000 feet and we are hoping to get to about, I think between 4 and 5000 feet tomorrow. Everyone's in good spirits. Today we had pizza for lunch and dinner which everyone was able to stomach quite well. It was nice to have something familiar literally attack our palates. Now at this point in time I'd like to just say a very big hello to everyone at BC Children's Hospital, staff as well as patients, all our friends and family and loved ones, all the people who have supported us to this point. You know that support can never be wavering, can never stop, and we are asking that you still go to Summitsofhope.com and do make as much of a donation as you possibly can. Everyone's in good spirits, everyone's healthy, and we're all looking forward to returning home very soon. So have a great evening, and we'll be talking to you very soon. Bye bye.
