About Me

Climbing Kilimanjaro has been a dream of mine for a long time. I became aware of BC Summits of Hope from a colleague who completed the climb in 2015. It was the incentive I needed to finally commit to this challenge. I believe strongly in the fundraising goals of the BC Summits of Hope organization. 100% of the donations go directly to BC Children’s Hospital. Climbers are responsible for paying all costs of their climb. This last year has been a milestone year for me as I turned 60 years old, retired after 36 years working full time as a registered nurse with 30 of those years in remote areas of Canada (Yukon, NWT and northern BC). I also had my knee totally replaced April 2015. As I struggled back to my feet I had time to reflect on what I want to accomplish in this next phase of life’s journey. It appears, the timing is now for moving ahead with the climb! Not only will I fulfill a personal goal, I will also raise funds for children and families of B.C. who are so well served by B.C. Children’s hospital. Please help me reach and exceed my goal. Marilyn McGarry
